My favorite part about having a movie review site is getting to see movies you wouldn’t normally watch or even know about. This is especially true for me when it comes to foreign films, like Rutabaga.

Julien Botzanowski (director/writer/actor) played his role of Adrien surprisingly well. I’ve noticed in a few movies I’ve reviewed over the last year, when the lead actor is also the director, it tends to not go so well. However, Julien was able to balance everything out nicely. He also had this Jake Gyllenhaal look going on the entire movie that I couldn’t un-see.

I do wish the entire movie was as intense as the final 15 minutes though. If so, this would’ve been one of the better horrors I’ve seen for the year. Unfortunately, I found the first 50 minutes to be too slowly paced and quite frankly, not scary at all… which ultimately made Rutabaga a below average movie for me.

Rather than spending the full 70 minutes on this one, pick it up right around the 45 minute mark. Trust me!
