“Phillip (Bryan Cranston) is a wealthy quadriplegic who needs a caretaker to help him with his day-to-day routine in his New York penthouse. He decides to hire Dell (Kevin Hart), a struggling parolee who’s trying to reconnect with his ex and his young son. Despite coming from two different worlds, an unlikely friendship starts to blossom as Dell and Phillip rediscover the joy of living life to the fullest.”

The best comedy duo I’ve seen since Chris Farley and David Spade. The Upside will have you laughing your ass off and hit you with all the feels at the same time. Kevin Hart and Bryan Cranston were perfect for this movie! Nicole Kidman played her role well too, but I honestly think they could have cast anyone as Yvonne and they would have been fine. The “Hart” of the movie lied within Phillip and Dell. The way Cranston and Hart worked together, you would have thought they’d been in 100 movies together.

For whatever reason, the film was done in 2017 (as shown on IMDb), but did not get its theatrical debut until 2019. When I was working on the set of Creed II, a friend I made had told me about this film he worked on. He had the role of a waiter and got to perform with Bryan Cranston. He also told me it was the remake of a French film. Fast forward several months and here it is. The Upside is supposed to take place in New York, but they did the filming in Philadelphia. From what I’ve been told, it’s cheaper to do that.

The Upside is based on a true story, which makes it even better, in my opinion. It’s also a remake of the film, Les Intouchables (2011)… as my friend stated above. I’ve never seen the original, but I will be making a point of it now. All the reviews I’ve seen say it’s better than The Upside. If that’s the case, than I can’t wait to view it. It’s hard to believe it could be any better, as The Upside is an out to an early lead for my favorite movie I’ve seen in 2019.

Next time you are deciding on a movie to watch, make it The Upside! You WILL NOT be disappointed, just be sure to bring some extra tissues.
