“The Game Changers follows the story of James Wilks – elite Special Forces trainer and winner of The Ultimate Fighter – as he travels the world on a quest for the truth about meat, protein, and strength. Showcasing elite athletes, special ops soldiers, and visionary scientists. Wilks’ journey exposes outdated myths about food that not only affect human performance, but the health of the entire global population.”
I know there are still a couple months left in 2019, but The Game Changers has taken the lead for my favorite movie of the year. I know a lot of people will be turned off from watching because its a documentary or because its a “vegan” movie… DON’T BE! This is a movie that everyone can benefit from. It’s insanely eye opening. I’ve always been interested in this lifestyle since I have a few friends that are plant based. I’ve been interested in learning about what my friends are doing more so than actually making it part of my lifestyle, but that may have just changed.
Most “vegan” or PETA type documentaries (ie, Earthlings & Meet Your Meat), I’ve found, are very in your face. They’re almost meat shaming you and making you feel like crap/ruining your day, but not really getting a good conversation or thought process going. The Game Changers is far from that. This was perfectly done and very down to Earth… literally. I’ve always known there were athletes out there that were vegan, but I never knew there was this many. Holy crap. The Game Changers had endless examples. It was mind boggling. It even dated back to the Roman empire with the gladiators. Oh, and Arnold… I would’ve never guessed the “Terminator” was now plant based!
My biggest takeaways from the documentary were:
- Energy Levels – The difference between a plant based diet and an animal based diet was insane. James Wilks (the narrator/main subject), was doing the ropes at his gym and could only do about 20 minutes before getting tired/stopping. After switching to a plant based diet, he went back and crushed his gym’s record. He did the ropes for 60 minutes!! And he could have kept going.
- Blood – They did a blood centrifuge on three Miami Dolphins players. When they were on animal based diets, the plasma in there blood was very cloudy and was compared to tar moving through your bloodstream. On the plant based diet, the plasma was nearly see through. It was that crystal clear.
- Boners – Yes, boners haha. They did a test on three college athletes and when they were on the plant based diets, their bones were significantly bigger and occurred for longer periods of time.
It’s not often that I get this excited to write a review on a movie, but after watching The Game Changers, I knew I just had to. I’ve already recommended it to about ten of my family/friends. Even if it’s not to change people’s diets, this information is something more people should at least know. The health statistics alone should be seen/heard by everyone. Not even counting all the myths about plant based vs animal based. I’m not saying I’m going out today and cold turkey changing my diet (because we all know I’m not plant based), but I’m definitely going to try making the switch. Or at least cutting back. I’m curious to see if I can do it. I also want to see/feel the health benefits and find out how hard it is to keep up with. All my friends that are currently plant based say it’s not hard, but I am pretty lazy, especially when it comes to eating/cooking.
We’ll see what the future has in store for Milzy (me) and a plant based diet/lifestyle, but until then, you NEED to see this movie!
Wow!! Great review!! Finally got to read it!! Definitely one we will watch! Sounds really interesting!!
