“Forever alone in a crowd, failed comedian Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix) seeks connection as he walks the streets of Gotham City. Arthur wears two masks — the one he paints for his day job as a clown, and the guise he projects in a futile attempt to feel like he’s part of the world around him. Isolated, bullied, and disregarded by society, Fleck begins a slow descent into madness as he transforms into the criminal mastermind known as the Joker.”
Oh my… Joker is an absolute masterpiece. This is a slow burn movie, but it is worth every second. The payoff is one of the best I’ve ever seen. I had so much anxiety the last half hour that I couldn’t sit still. I was on the edge of my seat with my heart pounding out of my chest. I know I literally just said in my last review, The Game Changers was my favorite movie of 2019, but Joker just overtook that title. Give Joaquin the Oscar now. There is no debate that he was the best for the role. Comic and Batman fans were worried he wouldn’t live up to Heath Ledger‘s Joker, but he is right on par… dare I even say better? And speaking of Heath, what an amazing nod Joaquin and Todd Phillips gave him. The entire movie was just perfect. It was unnerving, it was mesmerizing, it was extraordinary, and it was authentic. Everything I had hoped for and more. I will definitely be seeing Joker again. Don’t miss out and risk having the movie spoiled for you. Go see it as soon as you can!
I’ll end the review with a joke… only because it just seems so fitting.
Knock knock… who’s there? Oscar. Oscar who? Oscar silly question and get a silly answer.
